CNN —A former appointee of Donald Trump was sentenced Friday to 70 months in prison for his violent role on January 6, 2021. Federico Klein, a former State Department appointee, was found guilty following a bench trial before Judge Trevor McFadden this summer of multiple counts, including assaulting multiple police officers that day. “Your actions on January 6 were shocking and egregious,” McFadden, also a Trump appointee, said during Friday’s sentencing. Aquilino Gonell told the court that Klein had attacked him multiple times with a police riot shield. Klein’s actions on January 6, Woodward said, were “not a betrayal” of his service in the military and the State Department, but was part of attending “a protest turned wrong.”

WASHINGTON — One of the men charged with assaulting Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick on Jan. 6 was sentenced to over 6 years in prison on Friday. His co-defendant, George Tanios, who bought the spray and handed it to Khater, was also sentenced, to time served. Sicknick died a day after being assaulted, but prosecutors declined to charge the two men with his death. As part of his sentencing, Tanios will be on probation for one year and will be required to participate in 100 hours of community service. Garza filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Tanios, Khater and former President Donald Trump earlier this month.

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot plans to vote to subpoena former President Donald Trump during Thursday's public hearing, NBC News reported. The move to subpoena Trump has been under consideration for some time, sources familiar with the committee's plans told NBC. Trump is thought to be highly unlikely to willingly cooperate with the committee, which he repeatedly decried as a politically motivated witch hunt. A spokesman for the select committee did not immediately confirm the reported plan to vote to subpoena the former president. The committee's ninth public hearing, which was ongoing early Thursday afternoon, took a broad look at the findings from their investigation, interspersed with new clips and information.
